Glenn Spearman died on October 8, 1998. An avante-garde jazz saxophonist and composer, Spearman headed a number of groups, from Emergency in Europe in the 1970s, to the internationally acclaimed San Franciso Bay Area-based The Glenn Spearman Double Trio in the 1990s. During the last decade of his life, Spearman joined the faculty at Mills College in Oakland, California, where he taught "The History of Avante-Garde Jazz Music from the 1960's to the Present," performed, and taught workshops in New and Improvised Music.
