  • Eudora Welty Biennial 2017
  • David Kaplan, Curator

The second Welty Biennial is in its planning stages. The 2017 theme will be “Parallel Mississippi: Parting the Curtain,” with a focus on the middle-class lives and elite society of African-Americans in the state of Mississippi and the unexpected ways Welty’s writing and life made connections and missed connecting with that world. The venues of the 2107 Biennial will be site specific, with an emphasis on portrait photography and oral history. Developing themes from 2015, the 2017 installations will feature quilts, graffiti, and live music.

Specific dates for the late spring 2017 will be announced as soon as confirmed. Scholars interested in helping to develop exhibits and presentations should contact David Kaplan: curator@weltybiennial.org. [End Page 156]
