I’ve never been keen on clandestine pickups, men hungering for honeyed holes to ring their bleating eyes & lips moaning a message made plain by beards who ache to feel ambient heat threading through ingrown hairs yet know bigger hands palm flushed cheeks in dark gym locker rooms’ darkest corners. When I refuse behind-the-back passes & demand face-to-face, man-to-man D, they cower & tell all their boys I’m not good at keeping secrets, their collective lullaby. Lie. Play horse. L. Lamar Wilson

L. Lamar Wilson is the author of Sacrilegion (Carolina Wren Press, 2013) and co-author, with the Phantistique Five, of Prime (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2014). Wilson has received fellowships from the Cave Canem Foundation, the Callaloo Workshops, and the Institute of Minority Excellence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he’s completing a doctorate in African American and multi-ethnic American poetics.
