Changing economic conditions, research patterns and information technologies are outgrowing existing information services and presenting new challenges for libraries in the humanities. These changes and their potential to affect the methods and nature of research and thought in general are explored in the light of new electronic information networks. New ways of thinking within and about the university are called for. Problems that the humanities library is encountering and may still encounter are outlined, along with possible solutions.
