Abstract

The author describes a precise method of geometrical transformation of one-color strip patterns that results in rosettes with the same seven distinct symmetries as those possessed by the strips used to create them. The author describes the relaxation of precisely defined transformation rules for both reflection and half-turn rotation, so that a designer is free to create satisfying rosette designs that retain the same symmetry classifications as rosette designs that obey the strict rules. Designs for n = 6 in both one and two colors are displayed as examples of rosettes transformed from strip patterns.
