- The JBL Forum, an Occasional Exchange
This issue’s JBL Forum focuses on African biblical interpretation. Its genesis lies in an offhand comment made by Gerald West during a meeting in Atlanta in 2013. I no longer remember the exact wording, or what sparked it, but it expressed Gerald’s surprise, or puzzlement, at how different biblical exegesis is in North America—as well as in Europe and the UK—from what it is in his African context. I was interested in how and why this is so, and in the course of our conversation I became convinced that the topic would be of interest to many JBL readers as well. This Forum is the result. It is introduced by Gerald West and includes a main article by Kenneth Ngwa and responses by Juliana Claassens, Aliou Niang, and Musa Dube. I hope you will find the Forum as illuminating and challenging as I do.
As always, we invite your comments and responses via the Society of Biblical Literature website (log in with your SBL member number, http://www.sbl-site.org/publications/Journals_JBL_Login.aspx). [End Page 849]
