The author examines the effects of contemporary science and technology on individuals and the psychological and cultural mutations that can result, ranging from the physical dematerialization of people to the continuity existing between their psyches and their electronic devices. Within a framework of interrelationships between art and society, he develops a hypothesis about the role of the artist in society.
