Abstract

The world of telecommunications, the mesh structure of the networks that engage us daily, the notion of interaction and the concept of relationship replacing that of the object lead artists to new procedures. Such procedures that exploit the new technological media strive to redefine our relationship to the world in the global context of communication. They propose ‘representations’ that originate beyond the real, beyond appearances and beyond ordinary perceptual frameworks. The artist’s primary function shifts from the production of objects to the creation of models and systems. We are beginning a new era in our relationship to the sensitive, the imaginary and the symbolic: that of the aesthetics of communication.
