Abstract

This article analyzes the relationship between art, technique and technology, making a clear distinction between the last two terms, and discusses the problems and possibilities inherent in new communications technologies. An ‘aesthetics of communication’ is posited which is based on the ability of these new technologies to transform our experience of presence and of space-time and to create new kinds of events that are not dependent on place.
