Abstract

The Line of the Horizon project involved setting up a network of 27 participant nodes (21 of them coastal cities in the Mediterranean region) and activating it using fax equipment connected to phone lines. By faxing representations of their respective lines of horizon, participants located from the Indian Ocean to New York created a conceptual horizon on a global scale. The long process of networking preparation and the activation of the network are described. The broader context of such projects and the aesthetics involved are discussed, along with the author’s conclusions.
