This article uses ideas taken from evolutionary psychology, empirical science, and moral philosophy to argue that narrative is an adaptation that controls both intrasocial and socio-environmental relations in human society. Specifically, moral disgust is used in the novel and the critical discourse surrounding it to regulate social and socio-environmental relations in Costa Rica.
