Abstract

R. Darren Gobert’s The Mind-Body Stage: Passion and Interaction in the Cartesian Theater is a remarkable study of French philosopher René Descartes as a theorist of the theatre, which convincingly shows not only that theatre offers a demonstration of Descartes’s “theories in action” but also that Descartes had a transformational impact on theatre practice in seventeenth-century France and beyond.
