Abstract

Many contemporary paintings have been considered unrestorable. Concern over the situation has focused mainly on the methods and materials of artists. This article draws attention to the responsibility of restorers to maintain a technological parity with artists. The present state of the art is briefly examined, and certain technological advances in restoration are described, outlining their advantages and benefits to contemporary paintings.
