Abstract

Cromalin® film has been developed by the Du Pont Company, Wilmington, Delaware, to be used primarily for the making of color proofs by printing shops employing the four-color process.

The author begins with a description of the Cromalin color-proofing system. He then discusses the application of Cromalin film to the making of fine art prints, pointing out some of the innovations that have been made.

The technique can be applied to the making of editions. Unlike most photographic processes, work with Cromalin film is done under normal room illumination. Consideration of the acrylic polymer, the high quality pigments and the base paper suggests that a Cromalin print may possess a permanence essentially equivalent to that which can be expected for paintings made with present-day acrylic paints.
