Abstract

The author feels that current analyses of art have much in common with the scholasticism that preceded the development of the bases of modern science several centuries ago. He believes that art will become a more vital force in the lives of more people than it is now, if systems methodology used in advanced technology is applied to the analyses of the working methods of artists, of the objects that they make and of the reactions of viewers to their objects. Afier discussing his views on free will and creativity, he describes simplified systems models of these processes in terms of information processing by the hitman brain.

He then outlines his approach to making paintings in the light of the system models that he presents and comments on several of his works to guide viewers to an understanding of their intended content.
