EXHIBITIONS AND MEETINGS ‘Automobile Art’ was the title of an exhibition held during Nov. 1974at Bethnal Green Museum, London. Many aspects of decorative art since the turn of the century were represented, with the motor car as the main theme. An ‘International Festival of Computer Arts’ is planned for early 1975 in Singapore, with financial support from the computer industry. The aims of the festival will be to exhibit computer art from around the world and to show the large potential of computers for the production of art works. Germany. ‘The International Arts Festival for Chilean Resistance’ was held from 14-30 Oct. 1974 at the Royal College of Art, London. The programme included art films, symposia and video events. An exhibition of the work by two ‘conceptual’ photographers from the Fed. Rep. of Germany, Bernd and Hilla Becher, was held at the National Gallery o f Canada, Ottawa, Canada, from 20 Sept.-17 Nov. 1974. The Bechers have been involved with documenting works of anonymous industrial architecture. The exhibition was organized by the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla, Calif., U.S.A. Three public lectures on ‘Science and Society’ were held at the University of Surrey (Institute of Educational Technology), England, on 19Nov. 1974, 4 Feb. and 4 March 1975. An exhibition titled ‘Computer Aided Art and Design’ was held at Leicester Polytechnic, Fletcher Building, Leicester, England, in Oct. 1974. The exhibition, staged by the National Society for Art Education (U.K.), showed that the computer has an important role in design, in making art works and in stimulating artistic imagination. ‘PlanningYour Local Environment’ was the title given to eight workshops on planning and participation held at the Institute of Confeniporary Arts, London, from 0ct.-Dec. 1974. An international exhibition of serigraphs, titled ‘Computer Graphics’, held at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Miramme, Trieste, Italy, was produced by Editions Gilles Gheerbrant in Montreal, Canada. The serigraphs were by, among others, Zajec, Italy; Vilder, Canada; Kawano, Japan; and Mohr, France. An exhibition of more than 60 prints by M. C. Escher, which trace the development of his work (selected from a loan by his son), was included in the 1974-75 National Programme of the National Gallery of Canada.
