The author discusses the collotype printing process that was developed during the 19th century primarily for the reproduction of fine photographs where high fidelity is important. The process is described in considerable detail. Although collotype is now seldom used, the author believes that its revival in the fine arts should be attempted in view of the wider interest in prints of high quality. An extensive bibliography of texts dealing with the process is provided.
