Abstract

The author describes a series of 30 paintings that he executed over a period of about six months in 1974. The series reflects the influence of Hindu religion and philosophy on his world outlook. He kept notes regularly of his thoughts as he made the pictures. His choice of colours and the application of repetition of elements in a composition are discussed. Also, relationships arising from deciding on aspects of composition in a spontaneous manner and from self-imposed restrictions consisting of the choice of a single subject and the use of a specific technique with the same type of materials for the series are considered.
