Abstract
The author discusses some interpretations of the term mathematics and what can be meant by mathematical abstract or non-figurative visual art. He then presents an analysis of the mathematical content of his structural relief entitled ‘The Nine’—Hommage à Khlebnikov, which he made in 1976. The mathematical notions employed are from the domain of combinatorics.
