The author questions the value of labels assigned to works made by artists. He also finds unconvincing the designations ‘figurative’ and ‘nonfigurative’. He points to his own varied works, the ensemble of which is difficult to categorize. He discusses his oil paintings of flowers, gouache paintings in which shapes emerge, signature paintings based on ink splotch patterns and oil monotypes.
