In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

378 Books book there is a bibliography on temperature and humidity in museums, another one on museum lighting and a general bibliography. The papers given at the Lisbon Congress are mostly detailed reports of a variety of historical and technical studies carried out recently by conservators and scientists in different countries. Some of the topics included that may be of interest to artists are Japanese techniques for mounting paintings, the use in the past of metal plates as supports in oil painting, the formulation and application of polymer retouching mediums and solvent-type varnishes, the formlilation of adhesives for the conservation of paintings, the conservation of a collage (‘Roses’) by Juan Gris and methods of restoring old prints, documents and drawings using liquid paper pulp. An artist generally interested in new materials for his art work may be stimulated by some of the papers and may even find technical information of specific utility to him.
