It is with a great sense of excitement that I take over as editor of the Journal of Social History. Under the able direction of our founding editor, Peter Stearns, the JSH has come to occupy a special position within the discipline. Founded just as the new subfield of social history was challenging scholars with its innovative concerns and methodologies, the Journal has evolved in step with the discipline, often providing crucial space for important, new approaches. In particular, as a renowned expert in world history, Peter has worked hard to broaden the Journal’s coverage beyond the United States and Europe. With the support of our excellent editorial board, I intend to maintain the Journal’s high standards for quality and relevance. We will continue to encourage dialogue and exchange among scholars from around the world, as well as among those working in disparate chronological and geographical fields. I look forward to building on the fine traditions that he has established. [End Page 3]
