In her new book Performing Autobiography: Contemporary Canadian Drama, Jenn Stephenson focuses on “fictional autobiography,” offering nuanced metacritique of autobiographical practices in contemporary Canadian drama. Stephenson’s book, and the plays she includes within it, has much to teach us about the performances of autobiography, performances pervasive and potentially consequential in the “real world.”
