We are delighted to include two special features in this Issue of South Central Review: an appreciation of the American writer John Williams, author of Stoner, by Michael Mewshaw, and Sarah Bird’s photo essay, “Stories: One Frame at a Time.” Mewshaw, a contributor to South Central Review over many years, is a novelist, travel and sports writer living in Key West. He is the author most recently of a critically acclaimed memoir of his friendship with Gore Vidal, Sympathy for the Devil. Sarah Bird’s autobiographical photo-essay was given as the Keynote Address at last year’s SCMLA convention in Austin. Bird is a novelist and former photojournalist, living in Austin. Most recently, she is the author of Above the East China Sea. [End Page 1]
