Abstract

In a move away from dominant theories of language and their focus on the comic, Anca Parvulescu directs her attention toward the laugh itself disconnected from any object. Limiting her inquiry to the twentieth century, Parvulescu examines cultural, fictional, philosophical, and photographic texts in an attempt to elicit their bursts of laughter. Laughter: Notes on Passion offers a fresh and vigorous approach to the phenomenon of laughter, of which she manages to make sense.
