James Gindlesperger and Suzanne Gindlesperger, So You Think You Know Gettysburg? Volume 2 (Winston-Salem, nc: John F. Blair, 2014). 270 pp. isbn 978-0-89587-374-3.

The second publication by the authors on Gettysburg, this volume is best described as a continuation of the first, which published information on selected battlefield monuments. This volume contains color photographs of 224 additional battlefield monuments not covered in the first volume; brief descriptions of where the units fought and their casualties; and information on the monuments themselves, usually including the designer and builder. The contents are arranged by geographic area with corresponding color maps on which the locations of each are clearly indicated. All the major battle-field areas are included except for the East Cavalry Field. The text gives precise latitude and longitude data for those who wish to use modern technological precision. Three appendices contain the names of Union Gettysburg recipients of the Medal of Honor and very brief descriptions of the reasons for the award; an explanation of the attempt to award a similar Confederate medal and its Gettysburg recipients; and for some unknown reason, a copy of the famous Sullivan Ballou letter from First Bull Run, which has nothing to do with Gettysburg.

Serious scholars will not find much of interest in the publication. Those who wish for a colorful coffee-table book with general information on the monuments and the regiments they commemorate will find this an attractive addition to their collections and a good starting point for further research on units and monuments of interest, although its use is limited by a lack of specific source citations and only a brief, general bibliography.
