Abstract

The Brazil Studies Institute of the University of Coimbra published the magazine Brasília from 1942 until 1968. The magazine’s specific objective was to maintain and stimulate cultural relations between Brazil and Portugal. The first volume’s publication relied on funding from Portugal’s Instituto de Alta Cultura and Secretariado de Propaganda Nacional, but subsequently the Divisão de Cooperação Intelectual of the Brazilian Ministério das Relações Exteriores supported the magazine’s publication until 1968. The aim of this article is to analyze the content of the critical reviews that Portuguese intellectuals at the University of Coimbra published about the writing of history. It also considers changes in the discipline of history and the political cultures of Portugal and Brazil.
