The surf stretchesthigh-deep to the horizon.
Campless pilings creakagainst the mounting waves,
their moans haunting the islandmuch more than the seabirds overhead.
All the way from the Caribbean,new winds climb on shore.
Barren since the horn sounded,blacktopped roads lead nowhere.
