Editors’ Note

We are pleased to bring our readers this supplemental issue entitled, “Toward Treatment with Respect and Dignity in the Intensive Care Unit”. All articles in this issue are focused on the common theme of treating patients in the ICU with respect, yet they use different approaches—qualitative interviews, surveys, and conceptual analysis—to provide a triangulated view of the theme.

This is the first supplemental issue of Narrative Inquiry in Bioethics. While there is a departure here from NIB’s normal format for an issue (which includes a narrative symposium, case studies, and qualitative research articles), this important topic and the qualitative and mixed-methods work done by the scholars in this issue fit nicely with NIB’s mission of exploring bioethical topics through qualitative and mixed methods research. The NIB editors and editorial advisory board intend no changes to NIB’s standard issue format. However, we look forward to producing other supplemental issues that fit well with the mission of the journal.
