Announcements Cincinnati Museum Center Announcement Cincinnati Celebrates One of Its Crownjewels as Union Terminal Turns 75! One of Cincinnati' s most identifiable and most beloved buildings will mark its 75 anniversary in 2008. Cincinnati Museum Center will honor its home with a sixmonth celebration of activities and special events. The celebration kicks offon March 29 and 30 with a Di·amond Jubilee Weekend. This twoday celebration will offer opportunities to celebrate the Terminal' s history as a train station and Art Deco masterpiece. On March 29,a special exhibit entitled Building Union Terminalwill open in the John.A. Ruthven Exhibition Gallery. Utilizing images,graphics,threedimensional objects, published materials, archival materials,and moving image footage drawn largely from CMC' sown collections, this exhibit will tell the story of the building and its related facilities from design and construction through its current use · as a major museum and cultural facility. Also on the 296, the figures represented in the rotunda murals will seem to come alive as visitors interact with costut» ned interpreters representing these figures and relating their stories. Musical performances will include Let' s Build A for children 7 and under and 7be Singing Trainmen performing songs about the history of the railroad.' Ihe Cincinnati Heritage Program' s popular High Steel Tour will also be offered several times during the day. On Sunday,March 30,the same activities will be repeated,but there will also be a Time Capsule ceremony in the rotunda featuring the opening of the time capsule from the 25'1'anniversary in 1958. A new time capsule will be created and sealed, not to be opened until Union Terminal' s 1006 anniversary in 2033. Beginning on March 30, and running throughout the six month celebration,the general public will be given the chance to vote on what items should be placed in the capsule. Internships provide practical experience in collections management and research for graduate students. Fellows as well as interns are expected to be in continuous residence at ' Ihe Filson. Application deadlines for all fellowships and internships are October 15th and February 15th each year ( or the Monday following the 15th if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday). Applications are reviewed twice a year. The Society's collections are especially strong for the Frontier,Antebellum,and Civil War eras of Kentucky history.lhe fellowships are designed to encourage research in all aspects of the history of Kentucky and the regions of the Ohio Valley and the Upper South. Applicants should indicate how'Ihe Filson' s collections are relevant to their research topics and will have the opportunity to present the results of their research to scholars and the general public as appropriate.
