2 OHIO VALLEY HISTORY Ann Clymer Bigelow is a retired senior editor of the Current Digest of the PostSoviet Press. She has published articles on a variety of topics in early Ohio history, including antebellum black barbers and the care of the mentally ill. Rachel A. Shelden is assistant professor of history at Georgia College & State University. She is the co-editor of A Political Nation: New Directions in MidNineteenth -Century American Political History (University of Virginia Press, 2012), and author of the forthcoming Washington Brotherhood: Politics, Social Life, and the Coming of the CivilWar (University of North Carolina Press, December 2013). Robert Burnham is professor of history at Middle Georgia State College in Macon, Georgia.
