This work aims to reveal the great importance for die education of the Duke of Anjou—die future King of Spain under die name of Philip V—of his knowledge and assimilation oiDon Quijote into the general coordinates of a solid humanistic training, received by the grandchildren of Louis XIV To deal with this issue, this essay is divided into three sections: the first looks at his educational environment; the second points out the sig¬nificance of the writing of a “Quijote infantil” (i.e., a Don Quijote for children); and the third examines the great influence of those peers who were excellent connoisseurs of Cervantes’s work.
