- Editor’s Note
In my Editor’s Note for the past two issues I mentioned our plans to publish a special “Winter” issue this year—similar to the special Winter issues that we published in 1988 and 1996—to be coordinated by José Manuel de Bernardo Ares, Diego Martínez Torrón, and Alfredo Alvar Ezquerra. Nevertheless, as Don Quixote might remind us in part one, chapter eight, in matters of both war and academic publishing, the world is always subject to a “continua mudanza.” And so it turns out that, for a variety of reasons I will not discuss here, our plans for a special “Winter” issue melted away during last summer’s heat. This does not mean, of course, that our cooperative project with our colleagues at the Universidad de Córdoba and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas in Madrid has been diminished in any way. On the contrary, this special “número monográfico” has simply become our regular Fall issue.
In this regard, then, I am delighted to announce that the Fall 2014 issue of Cervantes has still been coordinated by Professors Bernardo Ares, Mártinez Torrón, and Alvar Ezquerra and is dedicated to the topic of “Don Quijote de Euro-América a través de prestigiosos cervantistas de los siglos XVI-XIX.”
Since Bernardo Ares provides his own very excellent “Introducción general” to this “número monográfico,” I will not provide my usual outline of each of the articles published in this issue. Instead, I will simply thank our Spanish colleagues, including all the authors who have contributed to this issue, for all their hard work and efforts, especially given the complications that arose in adapting their essays to the strictures of MLA style. Following the ten articles that comprise this special “número monográfico,” the Fall 2014 issue of Cervantes concludes with a book review written by William Childers, who discusses Aurora Egido’s 2011 book El discreto encanto de Cervantes y el crisol de la prudencia. I thank Childers for this excellent contribution.
And finally, as always, I thank our many peer reviewers and Associate Editors for all their hard work throughout the year. A big thanks as well to Heather Carnahan and Karen Gónzalez, my editorial assistants, for doing such a wonder job of helping me bring this Fall 2014 issue to fruition. [End Page 8]
