Rayan ALSUWAIGH is a final-year medical student at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He is one of 25 learners who have been part of the Division of Palliative Medicine’s ongoing initiative to promote awareness in Palliative Medicine and ethics and to cultivate interest in end-of-life research amongst learners from all clinical backgrounds through involvement in clinically relevant research and publication.

Alireza BAGHERI is Assistant Professor of Medicine and Medical Ethics in Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He serves as the Vice-Chairman of the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee (IBC). Dr. Bagheri is a senior editor of the Encyclopedia of Islamic Bioethics and a member of the international editorial board of the Encyclopedia of Global Bioethics. His latest publications include the edited volume, Biomedical Ethics in Iran: An Application of Islamic Bioethics (Eubios Ethics Institute 2014).

Chien-Te FAN is Professor of Law in the Institute of Law for Science and Technology, at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan and Director of the Bioethics & Law Center, at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan.

Ma. Ines Av. FERNANDEZ is Executive Director of Arugaan, a support system founded in 1989 for working women with infants and young children in the Philippines, whose programme addresses food security in terms of breastfeeding support for mothers and healthy hearth using indigenous foods and the creation of crèche/daycare for babies at workplaces. She is also the Southeast Asia Representative for the International Babyfood Action Network (IBFAN). She has served as feminist counsellor for women in crisis and has conducted a daily two-hour radio programme entitled “Higit sa Lahat” for this purpose. She graduated with a degree in mass communications (broadcast communication) from the University of the Philippines.

FOONG Patrick Chee Kuen is a law lecturer at Swinburne University, Australia. His research interest lies in the area of bioethics and health law. His PhD thesis critically analyses an effective regulatory framework to govern the controversial human embryonic stem cell research. He is a member of the Australasian Association of Bioethics and Health Law (AABHL), the Stem Cell Society Singapore (SCSS) and the International Society of Stem Cell Research (ISSCR).

Lalit K.R. KRISHNA is a Senior Consultant in the Division of Palliative Medicine, at the National Cancer Centre, Singapore. He is also currently a Visiting Consultant at Bright Vision Hospital. Dr. Krishna also holds the appointments of Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore, and Clinical Senior Lecturer at Yong [End Page 428] Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He is the chairman of the Clinical Ethics Committee and the Internal Audit Committee at NCCS. He is actively involved in teaching and continues to participate in medical, nursing and allied health education. His research interests include decision-making at the end of life and personhood.

Ragini KULKARNI is a medical graduate and did postgraduate work in Community Medicine. She is working as Scientist “C” in the Department of Operational Research at the National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health (NIRRH), ICMR, Mumbai, India. Dr. Kulkarni has worked in the area of reproductive health research for the past 11 years. She is deeply interested in the field of bioethics and is currently working as member secretary of the NIRRH Ethics Committee for Clinical Studies.

Renato MANALOTO is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he teaches courses in Bioethics, Philosophy of Law, Theories of Justice, and Phenomenology and Existentialism. He is also the Assistant Director of the Ethics, Legal and Social Issues (ELSI) Program of the Philippine Genome Center (PGC).

ONG Eng Koon graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2008 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He completed his postgraduate training in Masters of Medicine (Family Medicine) in 2012 before embarking on a three-year Advanced Specialist Training course in Palliative Medicine. He is currently working as a Registrar in the Department of Palliative Medicine, at the National Cancer Centre, Singapore.
