Abstract

This essay offers a detailed overview of the life and work of Californian artist John Outterbridge. It chronicles the early influences on the development of his work and unique style and brings up to date his accomplishments as an artist that deserves many more accolades. The reigniting of his career via the group exhibition Now Dig This! Art and Black Los Angeles 1960–1980 has provided an opportunity to begin the writing of American art history through an inclusive lens.
