This note explores some of the historical events related to bulls, bullfights, and bullfighters from the fiesta fictionalized in The Sun Also Rises. Specifically, it examines the source of inspiration for the goring of Vicente Gironés as described in the novel and the contradictory references to the bull killed by Pedro Romero. The note includes a copy of Cayetano Ordóñez’s contract for the bullfights of the Sanfermines in 1925 as well as a copy of the payments made to the bullfighters who fought that year in Pamplona.
