Manuel Puig’s Kiss of the Spider Woman challenges the critical understanding of male femininity and homosexuality. I argue that the privileging of homosexuality has meant that the study of femininity has been insufficient; as such, this essay draws on Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick’s notion of “effeminophobia” and studies Molina’s femininity.
