Andrea L. Beach is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Leadership at Western Michigan University. She received her Ph.D. in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education from Michigan State University as well as her Masters in Adult and Continuing Education. Her research centers on issues of organizational climate in universities, teaching and learning, and faculty development.
Kenneth Boning is the Manager of Research and Planning in the Office of Institutional Study at Saint Louis University. The Office of Institutional Study conducts assessment and evaluation of various University initiatives such as the SLU2000 inquiry courses program.
Darnell Cole is Associate Professor of Educational Administration at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His research interests include understanding the impact of diversity in institutions of higher education, the impact of student-faculty interactions on students' educational gains, and minority students' collegiate experiences. His research has appeared in journals such as Black Issues in Higher Education, Journal of Classroom Interaction, Journal of College Student Development, Journal of Creative Behavior, Journal of Hispanic Higher Education, and Teaching and Teacher Education.
J. Ann Dumas earned a Ph. D. in Mass Communications at Penn State University. Previously, she worked as a broadcast engineer with Fox Television in New York City. She researches and writes about information and communication technology access, participation and empowerment in Africa. She has lectured at Stellenbosch University, South Africa and currently lectures in Communications at Penn State University.
Anthony A. Olorunnisola is Associate Professor and co-facilitator of the Graduate Teaching Academy in the College of Communications at the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Olorunnisola teaches classes ranging from graduate seminars to large undergraduate courses. His research interests include explorations of comparative pedagogical cultures. Dr. Olorunnisola's articles have appeared in several international communication journals.
Srividya Ramasubramanian is a lecturer and doctoral candidate in Mass Communications in the Department of Media Studies at the Pennsylvania State University. Her research interests include media effects of race and gender, communication pedagogy, and strategic communication.
Chris Russill is a lecturer in the Department of Media Studies at the Pennsylvania State University. He wrote his dissertation on the continuing relevance of John Dewey's pragmatism for contemporary issues in public communication and democratic education. His current research and [End Page iv] teaching interests include using Dewey's pragmatism to improve communication and public understanding of environmental problems.
Susan L. Stockdale recently received her Ph.D. with a Concentration in Educational Psychology at the University of Tennessee. She is an Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Julie Weissman is Assistant Provost at Saint Louis University where she oversees the Office of Institutional Study. The Office of Institutional Study conducts assessment and evaluation of various University initiatives such as the SLU2000 inquiry courses program.
ROBERT L. WILLIAMS is a Professor in Educational Psychology and Counseling at the University of Tennessee. He is mainly affiliated with the School Psychology Program. He supervises the teaching of a large human development course taken by several hundred Teacher-Preparation students each year.
