Rachel S. Harris is Assistant Professor of Israeli Literature and Culture at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. She is co-editor of Narratives of Dissent: War in Contemporary Israeli Arts and Culture (Wayne State University Press, 2013) and the series editor for Hebrew Literature in Translation at Dalkey Archive Press. Her book An Ideological Death: Suicide in Israeli Literature is forthcoming from Northwestern University Press in 2014. She is currently writing a book on women in Israeli film.

Beth Holmgren, Professor and Chair of Slavic and Eurasian Studies at Duke University, recently published a cultural biography of the great nineteenth-century Polish/American actress Helena Modjeska (1840–1909), Starring Madame Modjeska: On Tour in Poland and America (Indiana University Press, 2012), and co-edited, with Professor Choi Chatterjee, the anthology Americans Experience Russia: Encountering the Enigma, 1917 to the Present (Routledge, 2013.) Her specializations include film studies, theater studies, and analyses of Russian and Polish autobiography. Holmgren’s current work focuses on Jewish– Gentile artistic collaborations in Warsaw’s interwar Polish-language cabaret and the entertainment divisions accompanying Polish Armed Forces through the Middle East to the Italian front during World War II.

Adia Mendelson-Maoz is a senior faculty member in Literature and Culture, Head of Hebrew Literature Section at the Department of Literature, Language and Arts, and a faculty member in the MA program in Cultural Studies at the Open University of Israel. Her research deals with Hebrew literature as it intersects ethics, politics, and culture. Mendelson-Maoz has published numerous articles in books and journals, among them Social Identities, Social Jewish Studies, Journal of Modern Jewish Studies, Shofar and Israel Studies Review. Her latest book Multiculturalism in Israel—Literary Perspectives is forthcoming from Purdue University Press in 2014. [End Page i]
