Rebecca Chaplan is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Columbia University, and a Training and Supervising Analyst, Columbia Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.
Ute Eickelkamp is an ARC Future Fellow in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Sydney. Her research examines the links between images of nature and the nature of selves in the context of profoundly changing life-worlds. Her fieldwork with Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara speakers in the Central Australian community Ernabella, begun in 1995, has focused on the social and aesthetic history of local art, images of destruction (mamu), and representations of kinship. She has studied children’s social imagination and emotional dynamics through a traditional form of sand storytelling in the desert, after therapeutic Sandplay work with Tiwi children in Australia’s north. Her publications include Don’t Ask for Stories: The Women of Ernabella and Their Art (Aborginal Studies Press, 1999), the co-edited Contexts of Child Development: Culture, Policy and Intervention (CDU Press, 2008), and Growing Up in Central Australia: New Anthropological Studies of Aboriginal Childhood and Adolescence (Berghahn, 2011).
Ilana Larkin received an M.A. in English literature from New York University and a B.A. in English and Theater from Bryn Mawr College. She completed an academic fellowship at the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia and will pursue her Ph.D. in English literature at Northwestern University. Her research interests include the literary uses of psychoanalytic theory, nineteenth-century American literature, and childhood studies.
Susan Scheftel is Assistant Clinical Professor of Medical Psychology in Psychiatry at the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center for Training and Research. She is on the faculties of the Columbia Parent Infant Program and the Columbia Child and Adolescent [End Page 227] Psychotherapy Training Program. She is a vice president of the Margaret Mahler Foundation.
Amy Sonheim is Professor of English at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She is the author of Maurice Sendak (Twayne, 1991) and teaches children’s and young adult literature. Based on her research into soulful illustrated texts, she has written also on Arthur Hughes, George MacDonald, and David Wisniewski. Currently, she is working on a picture book of Flannery O’Connor’s childhood aversion to guardian angels.
Adele Tutter is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and a Clinical Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry, Weill Cornell Medical College. She is on the Faculty of the New York Psychoanalytic Institute and the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. She serves on the American Psychoanalytic Association’s Committee on Psychoanalysis and the Arts. Her writing has appeared in the International Journal of Psychoanalysis and the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association. Her book on the architect Philip Johnson and his Glass House is forthcoming from University of Virginia Press.
Elaine P. Zickler is a member of the faculty at the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. She maintains a private practice in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy in Moorestown, New Jersey. [End Page 228]
