Abstract

In analyzing the representation of human cloning in science fiction novels for young adults, Crew makes connections to moral and ethical discourses and to scientific research on human cloning. Crew finds that the majority of novels reproduce concerns about human cloning that are found in government reports including concerns about identity and individuality, unethical experimentation with human subjects, and the risks to family relationships associated with human cloning. Crew concludes that these novels raise important issues, and she emphasizes the value of science fiction novels that creatively present different perspectives on the ethics and science of human cloning for teen readers.
