Correction to Review of Mars in 3D(CMJ 37:3, pp. 101–103)

Kudos to Gareth Loy for his wonderfully written and carefully researched articles about the Samson Box and his review of Mars in 3D—there is, however, a correction to the latter. Elliott Levinthal did, in fact, live to see his remastered Mars in 3D. On 11 August 2011, we arranged a screening for him at CCRMA [Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics], where Mike McNabb and I had set up a large-screen 3D monitor in the Stage. With him were his wife, one of his four children, and her grown daughter. In addition to the family, Bill Schottstaedt and Uri Geva (of the original film team) were present, and from NASA, Glenn Bugos of the NASA Ames History Office. Elliott asked why we didn’t have two projectors, but he did understand why we had to wear the glasses! As you can imagine, it was a very special moment. He died peacefully, five months later.
