Abstract

SUMMARY:

In discussing Serguei Oushakine’s study, Yulia Gradskova notes the importance of his regional focus and suggests that his exploration of the performativity of the post-Soviet trauma is one of the book’s theoretical discoveries. Gradskova also considers Oushakine’s mechanism of displacement of trauma to be among the most successful analytical tools. Gradskova believes that Oushakine ‘s idea of new solidarities based on the imagination of trauma sets the agenda for anthropological work focused on post-Soviet societies, and she wonders whether research in other regions would confirm Oushakine’s findings and conceptions.
