L'effet c'est toi: Projective Identification from Nietzsche to Klein

This essay puts Kleinian concepts in dialogue with certain aspects of Nietzsche's philosophical project. Grosskurth indicates that Klein studied Nietzsche's work in her early years, but no reference to Nietzsche can be found in her later writings. This does not mean that Nietzsche's influence on Klein's thinking was not profound. Nietzsche's genealogy of morality strikingly foreshadows Klein's portrayal of the infant's phenomenological world. By demonstrating how Nietzsche anticipated some of Klein's most central contributions, the essay uses Klein to bring Nietzsche to bear on clinical concerns, while using Nietzsche to bring out the philosophical depth of Klein's thinking.
