326 Western American Literature About the Authors Robert W. Cochran (Ph.D., University of Michigan) is professor of English and Adviser to Graduate Students in English at the University of Vermont. He has published articles in College English, Modern Fiction Studies and The Explicator. Paul Stein (Ph.D., Case Western Reserve University) is Associate Pro­ fessor of English at the State University College at Geneseo, New York. Cur­ rently, he has an article on James Fenimore Cooper scheduled for publication in South Atlantic Quarterly, and he is working on a critical biography of Irwin Shaw for the Twayne United States Authors Series. Wayne R. Kime (Ph.D., University of Delaware) is Assistant Professor of English at New College and University College of the University of Toronto. He has taught previously at the University of Delaware. His publications in­ clude articles on American literature and history in American Speech, The Explicator, Names, Oregon Historical Quarterly, University of Delaware Studies, and Western American Literature. He is currently at work on a study of the relationship between Washington Irving and his nephew and delegated biographer, Pierre M. Irving. James K. Bowen (Ph.D., University of Illinois) is Associate Professor of English at Southern Oregon College. He has published articles and poems in such journals as Studies in Short Fiction, Research Studies, CEA Critic, The Laurel Review, Poet Lore, Experiment, and others. He is author of American Short Fiction: Readings and Criticism, A Critical Guide to Herman Melville, A Critical Edition of Huckleberry Finn, and Confrontations.
