In Memoriam

Edward W. Said
1 November 1935-25 September 2003

As this special issue of CLS on World Literature and Globalization goes to press, we receive word of the death of one of the masters of the topic. The content of this issue could not have been what it is without Edward Said's far-ranging impact on the field of comparative studies in literature and on our practices as a scholarly community. His exemplary integrity as colleague, teacher, scholar, social critic, and public intellectual has been decisive and will be felt for generations to come.
