The results of an analysis of the clinical case presentations elaborated in manuscript by Theodor Kocher (1841-1917) in his first years as a professor at the University of Bern, Switzerland (1872-75), are summarized in order to indicate a hitherto little-known source for the history of surgery and to illustrate the early career of the Nobel Prize winner of 1909.
