EDITORIAL NOTES Eighteen papers were submitted to the Yearbook Editor in the period following the 1994 Annual Meeting at California State Uni versity, Northridge (or what was left of it after the January 1994 earthquake). Of these, eight were selected for publication in addition to Bill Crowley’s Presidential Address. Several excellent papers that were not refereed in time (through no fault of the authors, I must add) are being considered for the next issue. Particularly noteworthy in this year’s edition are the two medical geography papers by Sabrina Manning Gilliam and Alan Rice Osborn, both of which are based on presentations given at the 1993 Berkeley meeting, and the first pub lication of an original paper by John Leighly, edited and annotated by Bill Speth. In spite of my announced intention last year to accelerate the publication schedule of the Yearbook, I have been “overtaken by events” to the point where this issue is actually late, for which I must apologize. However, the 1996 edition is coming together nicely and should be out by the end of the year for which it is numbered. Mem bers are encouraged to submit manuscripts of potential interest at any time; suggestions on books to review are also welcomed. I am indebted to the following colleagues for their editorial as sistance: Sheryl Beach, Alan Bushong, Betsy Bums, Mike Folsom, Jerry Galm, Ken Hammond, Jonathan Mayer, Melinda Meade, Les Rowntree, Jim Scott, Dale Stradling, and Ray Young. I must also thank the Department of Geography and Anthropology, under the chairmanship of Elwin Lapoint, and department secretary Jennifer Dahl, for their financial, professional, moral, and emotional support during this endeavor.
