Abstract

Starting in 1977, Oracle's founders Larry Ellison and Bob Miner created a company that, in less than 20 years, would come to dominate the database management system (DBMS) marketplace and become one of the world's largest computer software and services providers. Chronicling the first 10 years of the Oracle story, the article describes how the company introduced its new product in the well-established DBMS marketplace.
