On the Cover is a racial-type illustration, featuring a Mongolian, Ethiopian, Caucasian, American, and Malay from An Intermediate Geography, by A. von Steinwehr and D. G. Brinton (New York: Van Antwerp, Bragg, and Co., 1878), and an illustration of Elizabeth Gaskell from an 1851 portrait by George Richmond.

VS Staff: With this issue, VS welcomes April Dressel and Ryan Allen. April is currently completing her undergraduate degree at Indiana University where she is double majoring in English and Japanese. Although her future career plans change by the second, at the moment she plans to teach English in foreign countries for a few years, and then continue on to graduate school. She truly appreciates the experiences she has gained at the VS office: the pain and torture of cut and paste for the VB and the everlasting problems of printing labels will no doubt be key to her future success. In addition to introducing her to Nanaimo bars with miniature Canadian flags, April's internship expanded her interest in literature and the editing process.

Ryan, an English major by choice, is also the office's resident musician—perhaps the first in history. Although his pursuit of the ultimate musical superlative will soon sweep him away from the soothing cinder-block walls of the office, Ryan still finds time to make invaluable contributions to the Victorian Bibliography. Ryan, whose zeal for copyediting may have gone too far, aspires to unite his musical aptitude with his unflagging attention to minutiae to stage the first ever "VS-stock," in honor of his office-mates.

VS would like to thank the Indiana University Honors College for its continued and generous support of our internship program.
